Description: California Style Esalen Inspired Bodywork:
Esalen Massage has become known as the art of “conscious touch”, and the California Style Bodywork Session is inspired by Esalen's intelligence, compassion and great ability to soothe. The Esalen style uses full, gentle stretching and effleurage over the entire length of the body and combines this with different deep and light massage and bodywork techniques, so that any physical or energetic blockages the client has can be released, leaving them feeling more relaxed, energized and free of pain.
The basis of California Style Bodywork is similar to Effleurage in Swedish style, but the strokes are longer and more luxurious. Instead of just one limb at a time, a stroke may work up from the foot over the leg and glutes climb up the torso and press the shoulder to the arm before resting at the hand for as long as it seems right. Intuitive is involved in every stroke, and the therapist listens to the body of the client with total concentration and compassion. Traditional massage, which works in a very precise manner on the muscle and circulation systems, is also incorporated as needed to address muscle knots and pain. In addition, gentle rocking of the body, passive joint exercises, deep structural work on the muscles and joints, Tui Na (Chinese push-pull massage based in my License in Acupuncture training,)and Qi Gong energetic balancing of the body, are all potentially part of the California “experience”. Jin Shin Do, Cranio-Sacral Therapy or Lymphatic Drainage are included where appropriate, in the longer sessions.
With the conscious manner of touch utilized, the skin and blood circulation are stimulated, the muscles and nervous system are relaxed, and the metabolism and lymphatic system are stimulated. At the same time, the tendons and ligaments in the joints are stretched and a good feeling of relaxation spreads throughout the entire body. The perception of each person’s body is increased to a heightened level of awareness through the variety of strokes and the encorporation of refined breathing and concentration. Sensory perceptions are sharpened and a harmonious balance is attained.
Modern Bodywork Eclectic Sessions:
This relaxing and healing combination of Swedish, Shiatsu and (optional) aromatherapy techniques helps reduce pain and restore circulation after long periods at the desk, injury, etc; helps refresh jet lagged travelers; supports immunity and feels great! Fragrance-free oils and lotions are always available for the fragrance-shy.
Optional Lymphatic Drainage can be added for deep relaxation and detoxification. Lymph Drainage amplifies the immune response by enhancing the production of T and B Cells and amplifying by 30 X the clearing and cleansing of cellular waste fluids. Therapy can be applied to address specific problems like shoulder pain, facial or jaw puffiness, male potency, knee pain and acne.
I enjoy creating an environment and a practice where you feel nurtured and comfortable. Music during sessions can range from from Dylan to Didgeridoo,Native to New Age, and we keep sage around to burn just in case you need to leave some old vibes behind.
The atmosphere is quiet and relaxing. I have a professional table, fresh linen, candles and a private studio in an Art Nouveau Landmark Building near Carnegie Hall and most every train there is.
By appointment. Call (646) 296-4264 today. I warmly invite you to ... California!
