As a rule, volunteer providers agree to provide all (*see Disclaimer) their advertised services at no charge, with no expectation and no obligation for
payment, compensation, donation, tip, thanks or honor of any kind. As a client, you're not required to pay, compensate, donate, tip, thank or honor a volunteer provider in any way at any time for services provided on a volunteer basis.
However, it's generally considered courteous, kind and appreciative to give thanks to the provider in an amount and manner appropriate to custom and circumstances.
Some volunteer providers may advertise that they operate under an "honor system". Under an honor system, you may be asked -- as the honorable thing to do -- to give payment, compensation, donation, tip, thanks or otherwise honor the
provider in an amount or manner suggested/stated by the provider, or as you in your sole opinion believe to be appropriate. In some honor systems, you might even be asked to "honor" the provider before the provider has performed his/her
services. But no matter the honor system, you're not legally required to pay, compensate, donate, tip, thank or "honor" a volunteer provider in any way at any time for services provided on a volunteer basis. And as a volunteer, your
provider, though he/she might ask, should not be expecting. You do not need to honor any provider who attempts to coerce you into honoring him/her. The issue of "honor" is solely a matter of your own values and conscience. It
remains exclusively your issue and decision. At all times, an honorable volunteer provider should treat you with appropriate dignity and respect.
But remember, volunteer providers are remarkable people. Your support is welcome and greatly appreciated.
