SHIATSU NO KOKORO GA HAHA NO KOKORO DESU.
“The heart of Shiatsu is the very heart of nurturance.”
What is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu, based upon a 5,000 year history of Traditional Chinese Medicine is a form of Acupressure which originated in Japan nearly 1,000 years ago and has gained worldwide recognition for its effectiveness. This method manages pain, balances the natural energy pathways, and enhances one’s health.
Shiatsu utilizes the natural energy pathways of the body through stretching and gentle rhythmic pressure of the acu-points along these energy channels, or meridians. Shiatsu strengthens the body’s self-defense system helping to maintain, enhance, or restore health. In addition, one develops over time, heightened self-awareness and better understanding of how one experiences stress and, eventually, how to better manage stress.
“The pressure of the hands causes the springs of life to flow.”
The Shiatsu Session:
Shiatsu is usually performed with the fully clothed client lying on a futon mat. Clients are urged to wear loose comfortable clothing. It is usually advisable not to eat a large meal prior to the shiatsu session. Shiatsu endeavors to balance that flow of energy within the individual’s meridians. With the energy balanced and flowing freely, the body’s own natural wisdom will manifest optimum health. Finger pressure and stretching of the muscles affords relief from aches and pains as well as calming the client’s body, mind, and spirit.
