What to Expect From Your First Session:
You will talk with your therapist about your health in general and about anything currently happening in your body that massage might be able to help (e.g. tight shoulders, stiff neck, and low back pain). This helps to determine if there is a medical reason that you cannot have a massage. It also helps us to tailor to your current needs.
You will receive your massage in privacy to maximize relaxation and comfort. Lighting and music will offer a calm and peaceful atmosphere.
You will be asked to undress to whatever degree you are comfortable. Again, you will be doing this in a private space. You will be lying on a comfortable table and will be completely draped during the entirety of the massage. You will be given complete privacy while undressing.
We use unscented oil during the massage. If you cannot or prefer not to use oils, we ask that you let us know in advance so that we can accommodate accordingly.
Remember that this time is yours. If at any time you become uncomfortable, let the therapist know and they will adjust or stop to hear your thoughts. We request that you feel comfortable enough to communicate how you are feeling. After the session, you will be invited to relax, and then dress when you are ready. Always get up slowly to avoid dizziness.
During Your Session:
-If the massage is too light or too hard, ask to have the pressure adjusted. Keep in mind that some techniques are not deep techniques, but asking is still appropriate
-If you are uncomfortable, (need a blanket, are too warm, need the light turned down) please just let your therapist know
-Please let me know where you hurt, and try to interpret between good pain and bad pain. This allows me to know what you're feeling and how to approach it.
-Breathing deeply and slowly will help you get the most out of the massage. Breathing moves everything through your body, relaxes the muscles and helps to loosen any tense areas.
-If something your therapist does is something you like, and you would like them to continue, or they are close but NOT QUITE HITTING IT, please feel comfortable enough to direct the therapist nicely
After your session:
-Drink a lot of water, as this will help the body remove toxins that were released during the massage
-Plan to relax for the first 20-40 minutes following the session. This allows the work to settle into the body and let you gain the most from the massage.
-The oils are not damaging to the skin, but if you can not shower after the massage, it is suggested that you shower before bed.
